ational University Cross Country RunnersLAKELAND, FLA – (September 27, 2019) – The Florida National University Men’s and Women’s Cross Country runners competed in the Florida Runners Invitational competed at Holloway Park, Lakeland, Florida. Collegiate men’s competitors Ran in an 8K race, collegiate women’s runners ran in the 5K race.

Florida NAtional University women's Cross Country runners“FNU’s first female finisher was freshman Heather Castro, who completed the 5K race with a time of 23:07.10, finishing in 42nd place, same position she finished the Florida Tech Invitational. Freshman Hassell Zeledon, was the next Conquistador to cross the finish line, she ended with a time of 25:41.90, improving her time in more than 3 minutes since last competition where she ran at the time of 29:24.30 in the Florida Tech Invitational. Freshman Sara Galindo was the next FNU runner to cross the finish line as she ran a time of 27:27.50 for a 70th place finish. The final FNU women was freshman Mery Yanez Mendieta, who recorded a time of 29:22.00, she also improved her time in comparison with the last competition where she ran 31:07.09.

Florida National University men's Cross Country RunnersOn the men’s side, freshman Patrick Kemboi finished the 8K race with a time of 30:38.60 as he finished in 52nd place overall. The other Conquistador competing was freshman Cameron Spielman who ended with a time of 33:51.80 for a 88th place finish.The event was the second Cross Country meet Florida National University ever competed in.

The Conquistadors will compete in the Disney Cross Country Classic on Saturday, October 12 at 7:30 AM, at ESPN Wide World of Sports, Orlando, Florida.For more information, or to view the full cross country schedule, please visit FNU Website
