TEMPLE TERRACE, Fla. (Oct. 21, 2022) – Florida National’s volleyball team pulled together an impressive victory over Haskell Indian Nations University 3-2. This CAC Volleyball Classic thriller marked the third time this season the Conquistadors played in a fifth set. Though FNU got out to a hot start, taking a 2-0 lead, Haskell stormed back winning two sets of their own. In the end, FNU proved to be too much for Haskell to handle. The Conquistadors now stand at 4-11 and Haskell drops to 9-16.
Set One FNU Notables (29-27)
- The first set of the match was riddled with tightly contested play as both teams were evenly matched for the majority of the match
- Haskell began to pull away leading 20-17 off a kill by Hannah Poorman
- FNU came roaring back to push the set to 24-24 when Joanne Danai delivered a much-needed kill. Stellar serving from Juliana Santos helped end the set in favor of the Conquistadors as she nailed a service ace to close out the set
Set Two FNU Notables (25-15)
- It was another close set in the early going as the score settled at 6-6 until FNU found a solid rhythm just past the midway point
- Three kills for Layla Cortez in the set
- A kill by Gabriela Gonzalez and two attack errors from Haskell secured FNU’s second point of the match
Set Three FNU Notables (19-25)
- Haskell did not take their -02 deficit lightly as they battled back to take this set after capitalizing on some errors on FNU’s side of the net
- Another three-kill set for Layla Cortez and two kills for Elis Cordova-Millet
- Two attack errors by the Conquistadors at the end of the set earned Haskell their first point of the match
Set Four FNU Notables (20-25)
- The fourth set of the match saw FNU once again falter when trying to close out the contest, as Haskell forced its way to the fifth set off an impressive offensive effort
- Haskell’s Hannah Poorman nailed four kills to secure the set for her team
- Multiple attack errors for FNU set up a perfect window for Haskell to take back control of the match, as three different FNU players notched an error in the set
Set Five FNU Notables (15-09)
- Multiple service blunders from Haskell slowed down any opportunity they had to take the match, as the Conquistadors won the set 15-9
- A kill by Layla Cortex made it 14-8 with FNU looking primed to end the match in the next couple of plays
- A service error from Haskell’s Aysa Benally handed FNU the victory

- Joanne Dania served up another 12-kill match
- FNU tallied 45 assists, 20 of which came from Ivette Sandoval
- Juliana Santos recorded a team-high 23 digs
