FNU Conquistadors Are Partnering With Volunteers of America Florida Chapter to Develop a Community Playground
Miami, FL (PRWEB) January 24, 2014
Teaming up with Volunteers of America (VOA) Florida chapter, Florida National University’s (FNU) premier athletic team, the Conquistadors, are participating in the “COMMUNITY-BUILT” Magnolia North Playground service project on Friday, January 24, 2014. Contributing to the efforts of several charitable organizations, such as Opa-locka Community Development Corporation (OLCDC), the City of Opa-locka, KaBOOM!, and the MetLife Foundation, FNU Conquistadors will join community members, ages 18 and older, to develop a community playground – the first of its kind throughout several community events the team has participated in this academic year.
Volunteers are required to bring enthusiasm, energy and dedication to participate. They are not expected to possess any special skills, training or tools in order to build the playground. The service project will take place from 8am-4pm at 2123 Ali Baba Ave in Opa-locka, Florida. Pastor Mikell of Mt. Tabor Ministries will provide breakfast and lunch.
“FNU Athletics is happy to participate in this special day of service for the ‘Self-Build’ Magnolia Park Playground in Opa-locka this Friday. This will give our student-athletes an opportunity to give back to those in need,” says Scott Schmidt, Florida National University Athletic Director and Head Coach. “Situations like this will help create well-rounded individuals that represent Florida National University’s Mission Statement and its Athletic Department. We want to thank VOA, Kaboom, MetLife Foundation and the City of Opa-locka for this opportunity to serve.”
VOA of Florida’s mission is to build communities where members are encouraged to connect with their spirituality through opportunities of giving back to society. It is through these beliefs that FNU is happy to extend this invite to all of its students
“Florida National University is committed to serving the South Florida community. Participating in this event gives our students the opportunity to help the community in which they live,” says José Alonso, FNU Social Media/Marketing Specialist.
