Service Member Opportunities & Support
Credit by Exam Policy
Florida National University allows service members to earn course credits for passing college-level exams. With a passing grade, they can earn college credits that reduce the time spent in college. These credit-by-exam policies include:
Advanced Placement
Military service members can take advantage of Advanced Placement (AP) programs to earn competency equal to that of a college course. The academic advisor at Florida National University reviews AP credit. Students receive more information about AP credits during new student orientation.
CLEP General Tests
The College Level Examination Program (CLEP) is a credit-by-examination program that measures a service member’s comprehension of college-level material and allows those who perform well on the exam college credit. Military personnel take CLEP exams free as part of their military education benefits.
Service Members can earn three or more college credits with a passing score on a CLEP exam. Passing CLEP exams can assist with reaching graduation sooner because fewer courses are required to earn a degree.
Career Support
Florida National University’s Career Services Department is committed to assisting our military students with employability skills, coaching, guidance, and resources to find employment in their chosen careers and respective specialized fields of study. These services included specialized career counseling, connections with military-friendly employers, and workshops on military-specific career topics.

Florida National University offers academic support services for military students. These services included specialized tutoring and mentorship programs designed to address military students and their family members’ specific challenges and circumstances. FNU recognizes the need for flexibility and offers virtual options to accommodate military obligations and relocations.
Priority Registration
Applicants who are “active” military personnel are exempt from the Diagnostic exam, for members of each service component earn a qualifying enlistment AFQT score. AFQT scores are computed using the Standard Scores for Arithmetic Reasoning, Mathematics Knowledge, Paragraph Comprehension, and Word Knowledge. For example, an AFQT score of 50 indicates that the student scored better than 50% of the nationally representative sample.
Financial Assistance
The Financial Aid Office strives to bridge the financial gap between a service member’s budget and the official need analysis assessment. Florida National University offers government-mandated funding for military-connected students. The military student services that FNU offers include:
