MIAMI SHORES, Fla. (April 15, 2024) – Florida National University’s women’s tennis team (3-13) were unable to steal a win over the Barry University Buccaneers (16-3) in Miami Shores, Fla., Monday. The Bucs posted an impressive 5-2 win after FNU once again fell behind 1-0 in the doubles portion of the match. Two Conquistadors did end the afternoon with impressive wins over stout NCAA DII talent.
FNU lost all three matches to open the match as Fabiola Bsereni and Natalia Calvo dropped their match to Maia Haumuller and Juliana Sperb 6-0. Vanessa Simone and Nadia Abad were the next to fall, losing 6-1 before Lojan Shaker and Claudia Colombo handed Chiara Fiorenza and Karyna Krykunenko a 6-4 loss.
In singles play, Celeste Deniz Reyes and Simone were the only FNU players to grab a win in singles play. Deniz Reyes bested Claudia Colombo 6-3, 0-6, 10-3 and Simone defeated Lojan Shaker 6-1, 6-4. The rest of the court was dominated by the Bucs, as they picked up three solid wins and a victory after Abad withdrew.
