Baseball Closes Out Series with No. 12 STU

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (March 20, 2021) – In the final two games of a four-game weekend series, the Florida National baseball team (5-18) dropped both games of a doubleheader with the No. 12-ranked St. Thomas Bobcats (19-9), 5-3 (7 innings), and 4-2 (7 innings) on Saturday.

In Game One, the Conquistadors jumped out to a 3-0 lead, scoring three runs in the top of the first. RBIs by Manuel Blanco and Carlos Cartaya coupled with a solo shot by Daniel Rodriguez gave FNU the early lead.

The Conquistadors kept the Bobcats off the board through four. In the fifth STU cut into the lead FNU lead, 3-1, and add four more runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 5-3 lead.

In Game Two, it was STU that took the early lead this time, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first.

FNU rallied in the top of third as Rodriguez drove in two runs off a single up the middle.

The Bobcats responded with two more runs of their won in the bottom of the fourth and held on for the 4-2 victory.

FNU will travel to Babson Park, Florida, to take on the No. 25-ranked Webber International Warriors on Wednesday, March 24. First pitch of the mid-week doubleheader is set for 3:00 p.m.
