LAKELAND, Fla. (April 28, 2021) – The Florida National baseball team (11-24) dropped both games of a doubleheader at No. 2 Southeastern (40-6) on Wednesday, evening, losing Game One, 25-4, and dropping Game Two, 11-4.

In Game One, SEU rattled off six runs in the second, seven runs in the fourth and six runs in the sixth to pull away from the Conquistadors, scoring 25 runs on 22 hits.

FNU had an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first as Christopher Mendez double to center to drive in Manuel Blanco from third. FNU added a run in the top of the third as Ezequiel Valdez Florentino blasted his fourth home run of the season with a drive to right field. A two-run shot by Joshua Smith increased the Conquistador’s score to four in the top of the seventh.

In Game Two, a nine-run bottom of the second by the Fire put the game out of reach as FNU suffered the seven-run loss.

FNU scored four runs on 10 hits in the second game led by Francisco Perez De Leon, who went 2-for-2 from the plate, while driving in two runs. Perez De Leon sent a two-run shot over the left-field fence in the top of the seventh to double the team’s run total on the scoreboard.

Despite trailing 9-0 after two, the Conquistadors battled in the contest, scoring runs in the top of the third, top of the sixth, and top of the seventh but the nine-run deficit was too much to overcome.

The Conquistadors return to action on Thursday, April 29, traveling to Lake Wales, Florida, to face the Warner Royals in a doubleheader. First pitch for Game One is set for 1:00 p.m.
