NORTH MIAMI, Fla. (April 28, 2023) – Florida National University’s baseball team surpassed 13 wins for the first time in program history after two solid victories over the Trinity Baptist College Eagles. The Conquistadors secured a 6-4 win in game one of the four-game series versus TBC and a dominant 25-16 win in game two.

In game one, FNU got out to a 1-0 lead after an RBI single from designated hitter Roberto Fernandez. Following a two-hour weather delay, TBC tied up the game in the fourth with an RBI single of their own. This victory was short-lived as FNU catcher Adrian Roman bombed a two-RBI homer to center field

Alejandro De Arazoza and Yordangel Gonzalez followed Roman’s lead with home runs in the bottom of the fifth that delivered the opening win. FNU had ten hits and two errors while TBC collected four hits with no errors committed.

In game two, the Eagles scored on a double to right field but were quickly overshadowed by a seven-run, six-hit first inning for the Conquistadors. Fernandez connected on an RBI double while birthday boy Matthew Gonzalez secured a triple that ran in Fernandez. First baseman Gonzalez got off an RBI single, and a three-RBI homer from Daniel Reyes gave FNU a 7-1 advantage.

The home team kept it rolling with seven runs in the next two innings. In the fourth, TBC was electric making it a 14-12 ball game with eight runs and six hits in the frame. FNU responded with a six-score inning including a homer from Gonzalez. The home run derby continued in the fifth, as De Arazoza collected a homer to highlight an impressive five-run, five-hit inning.

Due to poor lighting, game two was called after the top of the sixth. FNU had 25 runs and 23 hits with just two errors. TBC racked up 16 runs, 13 hits and three errors.
