The Conquistadors keep the winning streak alive

Miami Gardens, FL – This Saturday, the Conquistadors Men’s Soccer team faced the Bobcats of St. Thomas University at STU Stadium. The Conquistadors kept the winning streak and brought its 5th win of the season and 5th win in a row with the 2-1 victory.

The Conquistadors seek to control possession of the ball early keeping it away from the Bobcats’ feet. With a few good looks at goal in the beginning of the half, it seemed like Florida National University would come out with an easy win. STU, however evened things out possession wise, and kept the Conquistadors scoreless in the first half, despite Florida National University 6 shots (5 on goal) against only 1 shot from the Bobcats.

The match kept its high tempo on the second half, with both teams battling for possession and having good attempts on goal. The match was still tied at zero when Conquistador Pedro Veiga missed an open net opportunity to score. About 10 minutes later, Aday Luis Gonzalez Santana took a corner kick which found Rodrigo da Costa (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) who headed the ball past the Bobcat goalkeeper, to give Florida National University the 1-0 lead. The lead wasn’t kept for long as less than two minutes later Harry Molyneux headed in a cross off of a free kick, tying things up at STU Stadium.

The rest of the second half remained tied as neither team could score. Florida National University finished the half with 7 shots (3 on goal) while STU had 4 (2 on goal).

The game head to another overtime for the Conquistadors but this time only 7 minutes was all that Florida National University needed to claim the win Pedro Veiga (Teixeira de Freitas, Brazil) redeemed himself from the missed opportunity during regulation and struck a nice shot on the upper ninety corner of the Bobcats’ net.

With the win, the Conquistadors improved to 5-1 in the season. STU dropped to 1-4-1.
