Most people associate sonography with pregnancy because this is often used to track and generate images of a fetus. Study to Become a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer at Florida National University
The Associate of Science in Diagnostic Medical Sonography Technology degree program is designed to prepare students to perform ultrasound procedures. As a student at Florida National University, you will be trained to interpret sonographic images. You will also be able to conduct ultrasound procedures on the pelvis, abdomen and small parts and you will be trained to perform evaluations of the organs of abdomen, pelvis, obstetrics and fetus.

Job Outlook
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, most diagnostic medical sonographers and cardiovascular technologists and technicians, including vascular technologists, work full-time in hospitals, physicians’ offices or medical and diagnostic laboratories. Overall employment of diagnostic medical sonographers is projected to grow 12% from 2019 to 2029, which is much faster than the average for all occupations. As the large baby-boomer population ages, the need to diagnose medical conditions, such as blood clots and heart disease, will likely increase.
The median annual wage for diagnostic medical sonographers was $74,320 in May 2019. This annual wage is the estimate for medical sonographers who have already attained some experience in the field after obtaining an Associate of Science degree.
