Florida National Cruises Past Trinity Baptist, 92-67

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (November 19, 2020) – Led by Jose Benitez’ 29 points and Jeffery Hernandez’ 24 points, the Florida National men’s basketball team (2-3) cruised past the Trinity Baptist Eagles (1-2), 92-67, on Thursday night.

Benitez shot a blistering 10-of-13 from the floor, including three 3-pointers and a 6-of-6 night from the free-throw line. The native of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, grabbed three rebounds in 29 minutes of action. Hernandez registered his third-straight, 20-point game, posting 24 points on 9-of-19 shooting from the floor. The native of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republican, was 3-of-8 from downtown and 3-of-4 from the charity stripe. He also grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds for his first double-double of the season. Sophomore Hirotaka Ohashi dished out a game-best 11 assists to go along with seven points and three steals versus the Eagles.

The Conquistadors ended the night shooting 50.0 percent from the field (33-of-66) and was 12-of-32 from 3-point range (37.5 percent). TBC was 28-of-57 from the floor (28-of-57) and made just 3-of-18 attempts from beyond the arc (16.7 percent). FNU held a 38-25 edge in rebounding including a 13-5 advantage on the offensive glass.

FNU will return to action on Sunday, November 22, hosting Arizona Christian. Game time from Miami Christian School is set for 6:00 p.m.
