Florida National Loses Doubleheader at Thomas

THOMASVILLE, Ga. (March 13, 2021) – The Florida National baseball team (5-13) lost both games of a doubleheader Saturday at Thomas, falling 9-5 (7 innings) in Game One and 10-3 (7 innings) in Game Two.

In Game One, FNU jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but a four-run bottom of the second for the Night Hawks gave the home team a 4-1 lead.

FNU tied the game in the top of the third with a three-run top half of the inning and added the go-ahead run top of the fifth, 5-4.

Thomas regained the lead in the bottom of the fifth with two runs and added three more in the bottom of the sixth for the 9-5 victory.

Daytan Biegel recorded a team-high three hits in the game, driving in one and scoring one run.

Zjeanuwayne Braafhart (0-1) was saddled with the loss, allowing three runs (two earned) on how hits in an inning of relief.

In Game Two, TU scored eight runs in the bottom of the third to put FNU in a hole it couldn’t get out of. Despite nine hits by the Conquistadors, FNU could only muster three runs, dropping their third-straight, 10-3.

Jasiel Perez drove in two of the team’s three runs, hitting 2-for-3 in the game.

Starter Mario Benjamin (1-4) suffered the loss, giving up four runs (three earned) on four hits while striking out five in two and one-thirds innings of action.

FNU will wrap up its series with the Night Hawks on Sunday, March 14. First pitch is set for noon.
