HIALEAH, FL – The Florida National University women’s volleyball team defeated University of Cincinnati Clermont in three sets on Saturday to win the 2019 USCAA Volleyball Tip-Off Championship. The Conquistadors lost only one set on the four matches they played over the weekend.
The Conquistadors started out the tournament strong, sweeping Penn State University Dubois in three sets and taking down Kent State Tuscarawas University, 3-0.
Sophomore outside hitter from Lima, Peru, Maricielo Redhead Zuluaga showed up in a big way for the Conquistadors, posting a match-high 17 kills and 1 Service ace against Penn State University Dubois while Carolina Arrias Dantas and Gabriela Hernandez recorded 11 and 12 assists respectively to help the conquistadors to beat Kent State University Tuscarawas 3-0, Andrea Romero recorded 38 digs in both matches on Friday.

After both wins on Friday, The Conquistadors went 25-12, 25-18, 19-25 and 25-17 to earn a 3-1 win over Carlow University on saturday’s first match. Senior Afraina Ammerlaan posted a game-high 20 kills while Maricielo Redhead Zuluaga and Lina Valentino added 9 kills each. Setter Gabriela Hernandez registered 22 assists in the match while Carolina Arrias Dantas set up 17.
The Conquistadors sweep the University of Cincinnati Clermont 3-0 to end the tournament and become the USCAA TIP-OFF TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONS.
Freshman From Freiburg, Germany Maya Krapf, led the Conquistadors in the last game of the tournament with 14 kills, 10 Digs and 4 Service Aces. Andrea Romero had 36 digs and 3 Assists while Senior Afraina Ammerlaan killed 11-of-20 total attacks recording an impressive .550 % in kills’ percentage. Carolina Arrias Dantas and Gabriela Hernandez recorded 17 assists each.
