FNU Falls to Ave Maria, 99-81

AVE MARIA, Fla. (December 16, 2020) – The Florida National men’s basketball team suffered a 99-81 loss to Ave Maria on Wednesday night.

FNU was led by Jeffrey Hernandez, who scored a team-high 22 points on 10-of-20 shooting. He also grabbed five rebounds and blocked five shots. Jose Benitez and Kenneth Santos each posted 15 points. Benitez shot 5-of-14 from the field, including four treys while Santos was 5-of-15 with four made buckets from downtown. Santos led the team with 12 rebounds to go along with three assists and four steals. Rounding out the team’s leading scorers was Hirotaka Ohashi with 12 points. The FNU point guard also dished out a team-best seven assists and recorded four steals.

For the game, FNU shot 41.3 percent from the floor (31-of-75) and was 13-of-34 from 3-point range (38.2 percent). The Gyrenes ended the night shooting 50.7 percent from the floor (38-of-75) and hit on 10-of-23 attempts from beyond the arc (43.5 percent).

The Gyrenes held a 52-34 advantage in rebounding, including a 17-10 edge on the offensive glass.
