FNU Men’s Tennis Drops Home Opener to St. Thomas, 6-1

TAMARAC, Fla. (January 28, 2021) – The Florida National men’s tennis team (0-1) fell to the St. Thomas Bobcats (1-0) in the team’s home opener on Thursday afternoon, 6-1.

The Bobcats took an early 1-0 taking 2-of-3 of the doubles matches. FNU’s duo of Umberto Particelli and Guido Gentile won their double match (No. 1), defeating Adriel Azucey and Robin Calais, 6-2. The Bobcats responded with wins in both the No. 2 and No. 3 positions as Thomas Andrews and Adria Guerrero defeated Hamish Lee and Jerry Makela, 7-6 (7), and Antoine Gbadoe and Alessandro Tabeires downed Sebastian Fujita and Juan Sebastian Ramirez, 6-2.

The Conquistadors got on the board as Joaquin Rodriguez handed STU’s Azucey a 6-4, 6-4 loss. However, the Bobcats swept the remaining five singles to take the match 6-1. Calais defeated Particelli, 6-3, 6-0, Gbadoe topped Gentile, 2-6, 6-3, 10-4, Tabeires defeated Fujita, 6-1, 6-4, Andrews downed Charles De La Laurencie, 6-3, 6-2, and Juan Patino Pabon handed Jan Rysanek a 6-1, 6-1 loss

The Conquistadors will return to action on Friday, February 13, traveling to Lake Wales, Florida, to face the Warner Royals. First serve is set for 1:00 p.m.
