MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. ( Oct. 1, 2022) – The No.16 Conquistadors’ men’s soccer team faced off against the No. 4 ranked St. Thomas University Bobcats on a cloudy Saturday evening. The contest was action-packed and contentions from the first whistle, as both teams looked to gain an advantage on their respective opponent to no avail. The 0-0 draw signals the first tie for either team this season. Both side remain undefeated.

The first half of the contest was a showcase of FNU’s talent on offense as the Conquistadors strung together five shots and three corner kick to STU’s three shots and one corner kick. Through the first 45-minutes, FNU’s stellar and experienced goalkeeper Victor Ruiz, was a human blockade, nailing three saves before the halftime whistle blew.

The second half saw STU’s offense rattle off seven shots, two of which where on goal, without any shot entering the back of the net. At the 72-minute mark, Conquistador midfielder Patricio Amores collected his second yellow card of the evening, leaving FNU with ten men on the pitch to close out the match.

Despite being down a vital part of their offense, FNU continued to attack as a cross into the 18-yard box found its way to FNU’s Blas Barrancos. With a powerful shot Barrancos looked primed to close out the match before STU goalkeeper Franco Acerbi batted the ball away for an FNU corner kick. Francisco Crimi, at the 85-minute mark had one last opportunity to put FNU ontop as he had a one-on-one opportunity against the STU goalkeeper. Unfortunately, he was unable to get the game-clinching goal.

FNU’s Victor Ruiz earned a clean sheet and remained strong all contest with a total of four saves.
