FNU Softball Goes 2-0 on Second Day of The Spring Games

KISSIMMEE, Fla. (March 6, 2021) – The Florida National softball team (6-9) rebounded for a 0-2 start on Friday in The Spring Games, picking up two victories as the Conquistadors downed Spring Arbor (3-6), 8-2, followed by an 8-0 (6 inning) victory over Calumet College of St. Joseph on Saturday morning.

FNU began the day with an 8-2 win over the Cougars of Spring Arbor.

The Conquistadors used a five-run bottom of the second to put the game out of reach. Shortstop Nini Underwood drove in three runs in the game, going 2-for-4 for plate with a double and a home run. Madison Bradshaw also added two RBI with a 2-for-4 performance versus the Cougars. Pitcher Gabryella Hay helped her cause driving two runs going 2-for-4 from the dish.

Hay (3-3) earned her third win of the season, allowing just two runs (one earned) while scattering five hits over seven innings pitched.

The Conquistadors carried their dominant performance from the first game of the day into the second as FNU defeated the Crimson Wave, 8-0 (six innings).

Scoring eight runs on nine hits, the Conquistadors plated four in the top of the sixth to invoke the “mercy rule” and end the game after six.

Underwood and Megen Johnson drove in two runs apiece versus CCSJ. Johnson’s RBIs came off the first and last runs of the game. The FNU second baseman recorded an RBI single in the top of the first and a sacrifice fly to center in the sixth. Underwood tallied both of her RBIs off a double in the top of the fourth.

FNU hurler Brandi Kirkpatrick (3-2) picked up the win, tossing a complete-game shutout of the Crimson Wave, allowing four hits in six innings while striking out three (no walks).

The Conquistadors will wrap up tournament play on Sunday with a pair of game, taking on (rv) Bellevue at 11:00 a.m. followed by game versus William Penn at 1:15 p.m.
