HIALEAH, Fla. ( Feb. 3, 2023) – For the fourth time in the 2022-23 season, the Florida National women’s basketball team reigned supreme on the main court of Bucky Dent Park. A thirty-point masterpiece from Natalie Larranaga propelled FNU (9-10) to a seamless victory, while the Suns (2-13) suffer their thirteenth loss this season.

In the first quarter, Janelisse Marty Marrero’s four-of-seven shooting from the floor helped FNU shoot 47.6% for the period for a 25-14 point lead. Louise Pilley came out with a hungry of both sides of the ball putting up seven points and snatching up five rebounds. FNU’s classic defense pressured nine turnovers in the first and accounted for five Conquistador steals.

Just before halftime, Kathyann Frese-Castillo put up eight points including two three-pointers as FNU held a 15-point lead at the end of the period. The Conquistadors continue to shoot the ball well at 53.3% (8-15) for the quarter. Larranaga was on a roll in the third with eight points and two steals after just scoring two points in the first.

The second half saw FNU put real daylight between themselves and the visiting Suns, scoring 19 points in the fourth. Larranaga had 20 points in the second half and three steals down the stretch to solidify a Conquistador victory. Marty Marrero had the ball on a string, delivering four crafty assists in the open floor, and posted six points in the final frame.

Along with Larranaga’s 30 points, Marty Marrero dropped 17 while Pilley flirted with a double on nine points and 11 rebounds. Frese-Castillo was the leading scorer from the FNU bench with 12 points on three of five shooting from downtown.
