Men’s Soccer Falls on Double-Overtime Golden Goal at Southeastern

AUBURNDALE, Fla. (March 24, 2021) – A golden goal in the 106th minute by Southeastern’s Colin Horn handed the Florida National men’s soccer team (4-2) a 3-2 (2OT) loss on Wednesday evening.

In a contest where FNU out-shot SEU, 24-13, the Conquistadors took a first-half lead as the result of a goal by Manuel Rodriguez in the 42nd minute. Rodriguez struck a shot past Fire goalkeeper Carlos Curado for his second goal of the season.

SEU tied the game in the 46th minute before FNU regained the lead in the 66th minute. Tomas Casavilla converted a successful free kick towards the bottom left 90 to give the Conquistadors a 2-1 advantage.

The lead was shot-lived as the Fire tied the game in the 70th minute.

With neither team finding the back on the net for the remainder of regulation, the match went to overtime. Following an even-played first overtime period, the second extra 10 minutes saw SEU’s Horn end the game with a golden goal on the 106th minute.

FNU goalkeeper Victor Ruiz Lasso suffer the loss making three saves in the match.

The Conquistadors will take on the Warner Royals on Saturday, March 27. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
