Conquistadors Men’s Soccer Team Wins Thriller in Double Overtime

MELBOURNE, FL – Florida National University (FNU) Men’s Soccer battled to a thriller 3-2 win in double overtime over the Eastern Florida State College Titans Sunday evening.

The Titans were the first to score with little over 20 minutes left in the second half of regulation after a cross found the head of J.J Donelly, who placed it past Marco Sordi.

The Conquistadors, who had been playing the better game, never gave up and with 10 minutes left in regulation, tied things up after Gabriel Miranda blazed a header past the Titan’s GK after a corner taken by David Ochoa.

FNU wouldn’t settle for the tie to go into overtime, and two minutes later took the lead after Rodrigo Bandeira collected a through ball from Gabriel Miranda and put it in the back of the net.

It seemed like FNU would take the lead and the win in regulation, but another cross, this time off of a free kick found the head of Rushane McClymont, and once again the game was tied sending the match into overtime.

The game winning goal would only come in the second overtime period when, after the ball was scrambling in front of the Titan’s 18 yard box, the ball fell in front of Gabriel Miranda’s feet, who turned and placed the ball in the lower corner past the Titans’ goalkeeper to finish the game and give FNU its second win of the season. This was the Titans’ first ever loss at home.

The win propelled the Conquistadors to 2-1 on the season. The team will have little time to recover as on Wednesday they play ASA College at Goodlet Park, in Hialeah, FL. Kickoff is scheduled for 4PM.
