In just its second year of competition, the Florida National University Conquistadors Men’s Basketball team received a bid to play in the USCAA National Tournament. The team, along with supporters from the institution, gathered in the Golden Room of the University’s Hialeah Campus on Monday, February 23rd to watch the 2015 USCAA Men’s Division I Selection Show, which can be reviewed here. They were thrilled to find they had received a #5 seed.

The Conquistadors will take on #4 seed, Concordia College Alabama. FNU considers this to be a tough draw, as the Hornets from Concordia College Alabama have won 16 straight games coming into the tournament. However, the Conquistadors are ready to take its chances in hopes of advancing.

“In just two short years, these guys have accomplished what very few teams are able to do. They have built a name for themselves through strong competition and skilled playing. They are going to take on a tough team, but I think they are ready for the challenge,” an exuberant Athletic Director/Head Coach, Scott Schmidt, stated.

The Conquistadors’ reputation was built through a triumphant second season. They are entering the tournament directly following six consecutive wins and finished the regular season with a 19-10 record.

“This team has worked hard all season and its efforts paid off,” Assistant Coach, James “JJ” Thatcher, offered. “The competition is not going to be easy, but our team has been known to shine in the face of adversity.”

The Conquistadors are scheduled to play against the Hornets next Wednesday, March 4, 2015, at 4pm. This game will take place in the Main Arena at Penn State Fayette in Uniontown, Pennsylvania.
