South Florida’s Newest Men’s College Basketball Team to Play Their First Home Game on November 6th

Florida National University Conquistadors vs. Warner University Royals Tip-Off is at 7:00 p.m.

The Conquistadors, Florida National University’s first-ever men’s college basketball team, will be playing their first home game of their inaugural season on Wednesday, November 6th, 2013. The Conquistadors will be playing the Royals from Warner University in the Bucky Dent Gymnasium located on 2250 W. 60th Street, Hialeah, FL 33016. Tip-Off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.

The team will be coming back from a five-game road trip that began with their first game against Edward Waters College in Jacksonville, FL. Athletic Director and Head Coach Scott Schmidt is very excited about his newly formed team and he has high hopes for them. “They are big, loud and Hialeah proud,” says Schmidt when describing his team.

Forming an athletic department and the creation of a basketball team marks a major milestone for Florida National University, the City of Hialeah’s first and only university, with over 30 years of providing post-secondary education to the South Florida community.

The Conquistadors Team is affiliated with the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) which is dedicated to “leveling the playing field for America’s small colleges.” The team is composed of one head coach, two assistant coaches, two student managers and 17 players. Four of the players are from Miami, FL. Center Christopher Miranda, a graduate from Miami Springs High School, is from Hialeah, Florida along with student manager Jon Arista.
