Softball Extends Win Streak to Five with Sweep of SEU

MIAMI, Fla. (April 20, 2021) – The Florida National softball team (21-12) extended its current winning streak to five games with a doubleheader sweep of the (rv) Southeastern Fire (25-20) on Tuesday, winning Game One, 4-2, and taking Game Two, 7-2.

In Game One, FNU scored four runs on seven hits to earn the team’s 20th victory of the season, 4-2.

Starting pitcher Natasha Trujillo (8-4) won her second game in the last three day, throwing a complete game versus the Fire, allowing two runs on five hits. The native of Whittier, California, opened the game in a bit of a jam, loading the bases and walking in the first run of the contest in the top of the first.

The 1-0 Fire advantage was the team’s only lead of the day, as the Conquistadors plated two in the bottom of the first with an RBI-double by Megen Johnson, and an RBI-single by Lia Damiani.

Gabryella Hay extended the Conquistador’s lead to 4-1 with a single to right center, scoring a pair of runs as Nini Underwood and Taylor Turner scored.

Despite an SEU run in the top of the sixth, Trujillo shut the door on the Fire for the 4-2 victory.

Game Two was all FNU as the Conquistadors scored four runs in the second inning and three in the fourth to cruise to a 7-2 victory.

Hay (6-3) earned the win, tossing a complete-game victory, allowing two runs on seven hits.

The Conquistadors used 12 hits to knock off the Fire as Underwood and Trujillo were prefect from the plate. Underwood went 4-for-4 with four RBI and a run scored while Trujillo hits 3-for-3 with a run scored.

With the sweep, FNU improved to 21-12 on the year, winning 14 of its last 16 games.

The Conquistadors will host the USCB Sand Sharks on Friday, April 23. The doubleheader from Miami Christian School is set to begin at noon.
