Softball Wins Sixth-Straight with Sweep of Webber International

MIAMI, Fla. (March 24, 2021) – The Florida National softball team (13-10) extended its current winning streak to six games with a doubleheader sweep of the Webber International Warriors (17-15) on Wednesday afternoon.

The Conquistadors began the day with a 4-1 win over WIU in Game One.

Zaira Nunez and Gabryella Hay combined to drive in all four runs for FNU. Nunez, who went 1-for-4 in the game, used a single to center in the bottom of the third to put the Conquistadors on the board, 1-0, and added another RBI in the bottom of the fifth, driving in the go-ahead run on a fielder’s choice. Hay, who batted 1-for-3 in the contest, added two more runs for FNU in the bottom of the fifth with a double to right field.

Natasha Trujillo (4-4) earned the first of her two victories on the day, allowing no runs on one hit in three innings of relief action.

In Game Two, the Conquistadors plated in a run in the bottom of the first and never looked back, completing the doubleheader sweep with a 3-1 victory.

Nini Underwood knocked in one, going 1-for-2 versus the Warriors with a run scored. Megen Johnson also went 1-for-2 from the plate, driving in one.

Runs by the Conquistadors in both the fourth and fifth innings, gave FNU a 3-0 lead heading into the sixth.

Brandi Kirkpatrick, who came out of the pen in the sixth, earned the save, allowing one run on three hits in two innings of action. Trujillo, the Game Two starter, claimed the win, tossing five shutout innings, allowing just three hits.

The Conquistadors will travel to Lake Wales, Florida, to take on the No. 19-ranked Warner Royals on Saturday, March 27. Game One of the Saturday doubleheader is set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
