HIALEAH, Fla. (May 4, 2024) – Florida National University’s softball team (23-22) had three standout players earn coveted spots on the 2024 Continental Athletic Conference (CAC) Softball All-Tournament Team. The Conquistadors exited Lawrenceville, Ga., with a 2-2 record, dropping both games to the eventual titleholder, No. 13 Georgia Gwinnett College. En route to a 2-1 loss in the CAC Championship Game, FNU posted a 4-3 win to open the tournament on May 2 and a 16-1 rout over Crowley’s Ridge College.
FNU’s Janessa Esquibel, Gabriela Obando and Sophia White were the three exceptional Conquistadors named to the All-Tournament team after stellar performances in Georgia. White was spectacular in FNU’s win over CRC on May 3, going 4-for-4 from the batter’s box and allowing three hits from the circle. The freshman righty also nabbed a save in FNU’s 4-3 win the previous day.
Esquibel was a constant motor for the Conquistadors, claiming timely punch outs and going 2-for-3 in game one versus the Pioneers. Senior outfielder Obando landed her spot on the All-Tourney Team with three RBIs and a double in FNU’s five-inning victory over the Pioneers.
Notably, transfer Alyssa Songer was honored as FNU’s Champion of Character.
