Three Conquistadors named USCAA All-Americans. (Nov. 9, 2023)

HIALEAH, Fla. (Nov. 9, 2023) – Florida National University’s women’s volleyball team had three exceptional players named First and Second Team All-Americans by the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA). Outside hitter Layla Cortez was picked as a first-team selection while Ivette Sandoval and Elis Cordova-Millet earned a coveted spot on the USCAA’s second team.

“The USCAA has announced its All-American and individual End of the Year award winners for volleyball,” the USCAA’s press release said. “The ceremony was held at Penn State Fayette on Wednesday evening followed by an ice cream social.” 

Cortez had another spectacular season in a Conquistador uniform, posting 245 kills and 104 digs. The Miami native is a wildly talented player at the net, posting 10 solo blocks and 12 assisted in 18 matches played. 

Sandoval was one of FNU’s best specialists on the court this season, recording 284 assists and 135 digs. The sophomore took a big leap this season, committing just six errors this season and zero reception errors. Cordova-Millet has 94 crucial kills in 2023 so far, six solo blocks and is credited with 10 assisted blocks. 

Cordova-Millet, Sofia Moreno Bendala and Taylor Purdy also made the Division I Volleyball National All-Academic Team.
