HIALEAH, Fla. (March 7, 2024) – Florida National University’s women’s tennis team (1-7) was blanked by the Wayne State University Warriors (9-3) Thursday. The Conquistadors dropped its seventh match of the season fresh off an impressive and hard-fought 4-3 win over conference foe Ave Maria University on Feb. 28. FNU’s lone victory of the match opposite WSU came in doubles play despite WSU taking an early 1-0 lead.

Florida National’s Fabiola Bsereni and Natalia Calvo fell short of the mark in a 6-0 loss to Wayne State’s Anais Ruyssen and Marta Komar. In a closer match, one court over, Nadia Abad and Vanessa Simone were outlasted by Malak Arafat and Martyna Szpakowska. FNU’s Karyna Krykunenko and Chiara Fiorenza did manage to decisively defeat Justine Beaulieu and Dea Gorgidze 6-3. 

Singles play was an absolute show of dominance for WSU as Arafat and Beaulieu each earned 6-2, 6-2 wins versus Calvo and Fiorenza, respectively. Reyes put up a good fight against Shanice Weekes, tying the match in the second set with a 7-6 win before falling 6-3, 6-7, 10-3. WSU went on to sweep all singles matches en route to a perfect afternoon on the courts of Goodlet Park.
